I am confused here Ski38off. Divinycell is a modern core material. How did you use it for a floor and stringers? Divinycell is made of "foam" but comes in squares on a fabric background which is meant to be encased in glass. I suppose I could fold it over to make stringers and use libral amounts of resin but they would not be nearly as strong as wood stringers... To make a floor out of Divinycell you would have to glass multiple layers on both sides so why not just use Coosa board and just glass the top side?

I worked with Divinycell back in the 80's and used it on my first dyne. It comes in 4 x 8 sheets, various densities and thicknesses as well as scrim backed squares. The stringers are 3/4" foam on edge with one layer of glass all around. The floor is 3/4" and glassed on both sides. I used uni-directional glass which is stronger than woven. The floor is bonded to the stringers. Finished product is extremely strong and light. I didn't know about Coosa board when I did my second dyne in 2012. I would have used it for the transom and stringers, but I'll bet my foam floor is much lighter and just as strong as the coosa. Second dyne the foam was lower density and not quite as strong. I had to glass a 1/4" thick plywood over the top of the foam floor to get the strength I wanted. Live and learn.

Every pound you save means enhanced performance. If I were to redo mine, I would go with a 21 inch transom. That is where my motor is mounted, and I think it could go higher.

    All-
The windshield will be a decision made later on. The light at the end of the tunnel for us will be paint, and after that the accessories (lights, cleats, mirror, windshield etc) are all simple add-ons. I have driven 20 footers, a Hydrodyne and a Dyna-Ski, and being bothered at barefoot speed is arguable. It's not bad with a pair of sunglasses or goggles unless you encounter a swarm of bugs at 45!!

I forget if my first sighting of a Dyne was in Minocqua or in Wausau. Either way they are impressive. The first few times you see a twin do a tail stand it's pretty mind-blowing, and even after seeing it hundreds of times and driving it a dozen times, it's still cool. The holeshot is also a treat every single time. I like when others ask how fast the twin goes, and they aren't terribly impressed by low fifties figures of top speed. The excitement is that it gets there in about what, 4 seconds?

I vaguely remember my dad telling me a story of a twin rig crafted by he and his brother when they were young. I believe it was a 14 foot Alumacraft with twin tillers. I'll let him tell that story!
On that note, has anyone had timeout issues on the site here? My dad still cannot access the site from home, getting a timeout error any time he tries. He doesn't have this error with any other site. Is it possible that a certain IP address can be blocked either accidentally or intentionally? He's tried contacting his internet service provider but they've given him the run around and suggested it's his problem. Anyone with input it'd be greatly appreciated.

Dad and I both have some time off coming up, hopefully we'll be mixing some resin soon! Happy holidays all~~

PM Bryan, the administrator. He will fix it if it's a site problem. He is a helpful guy. Look under announcements for his post, click on his name and follow the prompt.

Sorry for the delay. Been out of town for the holidays. Very possible he was blocked by the firewall for one reason or another, though it's usually odd for that to happen just on the forum. If you could let me know his IP, I'll look into it. Even better would be a traceroute to the site.

    Windows Command Prompt
    tracert hydrodyners.com <enter>

That should help give me an idea of where exactly the connection is failing.

Yes we did some of our learning to ski behind an improvised twin rig. My parents had a 14 ft. Alumacraft with a 10 hp Johnson. My brother and I were maybe 10 and 12 at the time and a 10hp couldn't get it done, but our friends( also 10 and 12 )parents had a 10 merc. So we put them both on our boat. It did the job for little kids but was a handful to operate with 2 tillers. Shortly after both families upgraded to 20 mercs and we did it again. It was actually scary the way that little set-up would pull, (probably greatly enhanced by my perspective as a 10 or 12 year old).

Thanks Bryan, I knew you could do it. Welcome aboard Bruce.

I rebuilt a basket case Johnson SD-10 16hp when I was 14. I passed on a Johnson PO-15, 22hp which in retrospect I should have bought. I have one now.

I used the Divinycell strictly as a core. It was cut into 1" squares and scrim backed so the glass could flow in to the cuts and form a honeycomb. I used Coosa as a direct replacement for plywood. That stuff is not cheap but is the same strength of plywood and 30% lighter and does not absorb water. The only problem with Coosaboard is that you cannot sink screws into it so where screws were necessary I put plywood on top (or under) it and encased it with glass. They make Coosa in several densities - I used the Bluewater 26 which is the densest. I paid $1400 for 7 sheets of 1/2" x 4' x 8'.
