Some pics from my original thread, thought they should be in this section. How she started. No motor, no drive, no instruments, no interior, no floor, no trailer (the one it was sitting on didn't come with it)....one step from the landfill, but lots of POTENTIAL! You can see most of the project here. http://www.hydrodyners.com/forum/index.php?threads/oldskiers-new-project.1336/
Congratulations, the boat looks terrific. I think it is a good idea to put the pictures here, it makes them easier to find. jim
Well done!! Did you make a decision on the prop pitch are still sorting out? BTW that name for the boat and the song that came with needs to leave my head....old enough to know it but didn't connect with the 70's music scene and never will.... Not an insult to the boat but defintaly a sign of the times. Kevin-
Kevin, you might notice the name didn't survive the resto. I was a child of the 60s and 70s and loved some of the AOR (album oriented rock) music of those days but the pop music of the era was sometimes pretty awful. That song was in the second category. (Keep in mind when a song like that gets in your head, the universal antidote is the theme from Gilligans Island.) ;^) I am sticking with the 19 for now. I am getting used to the sound of a car motor in the boat running at speed..... PS...could have been worse....Muskrat Love?
The restoration turned out great. Any luck finding a pylon yet, or are you going to have one fab'd up?
Thanks Tom. I think I'll check into having one made. I'm letting the bank account recover for a while though.
Well I couldn't find a pylon and couldn't get a reasonable price for a fabricator to do it, so I bought some aluminum tubing and a tubing bender and here's what came out. I don't weld aluminum, but I have a good friend with a TIG and a spool gun and we finally got it all together. This boat is FINALLY complete!
Very Nice! The 1970's HD 18 just dosn't look right without a robust pylon. Now it is time to put it to work :~). I usually rely on Dave Grohl and FooFighter company to purge the head from the 70's music. Will be pulling the HD 20 out early this yr (soft winter here in WI) to get it dialed in at a local shop. The old carb was changed out last summer with a rebuilt from Allstate Carborator but never got it sorted, short summer. Take care and have a great summer in 2016! Kevin-
