It was called an 1800, it came in round chine or v-bottom with the same deck config. The engine was a Eaton Yale Towns 289 ford block with a 200 volvo out drive. This a a rare boat, not many made. I would say less than 75. most likly a 67.68 manf. year. The v-bottom had about the same numbers made. The serial number was on an alu. plate place on the right inside chine as you faced the stern about a foot from the transom. It was covered with masking tape and then sprayed over with splater paint. If you can get me the serial number I can tell you the month and yeat of manf. and the number of boat in production. I hope I have been of some help. Ab
Hey Ab Jr., It’s great to hear from you and welcome to the Hydrodyners.com webpage. After reviewing your comments regarding 69dyne’s boat, I realized that I had neglected one of Fords most enduring blocks; I totally forgot about the 289 CID small block. After reading your comments regarding the production count for 1800 (less than 75 hulls), I was wondering if you recall the production numbers for the pre-1978, 18-foot tournament skier hulls? Also when did they first begin production? I was led to believe that the tournament skier was first produced in 1967? I appreciated our email exchange and phone discussion regarding my 1975 tournament skier from a few years back (….spotters throttle control setup stolen from the Hydrodyne Plant when finished/awaiting delivery, ended up in Florida, and recovered by you….). I still have the boat and am starting to get the itch to get it out of storage. Cheers, Kevin-
Hey Kevin I think I remember the article and picture of your boat. Was it on Fiberglassics at one time? I had a picture of that boat in my Hydrodyne photo collection which was unfortunately lost when my computer crashed. Is it a white I/O w/ light blue stripes? That is one heck of a nice boat.
Hi Mark: Yes; that was my boat and story. Getting it out of storage in a week. Hopefully not too soon, we're still in that transitional winter spring phase 75 miles north of you. Your boats paint job looks spectacular. Now the fun begins. I rigged a bracket system for a 73 that I used to own with a friend with aluminum angle and some after market seat and it worked out pretty good. No adjustment though, just fixed. Good luck with your re-assembly, Kevin-
Send me you e-mail address and I will tell you where you might find the serial number. It was called the 1800 or citation, very rare. it is a Eaton Yale Towne conversion using the ford 289 and the 200 series volvo outdrive. Good running combo. Ab acrosby8@comcast.net
