Chain falls on an I beam trolley are really nice! Having the means to winch stuff up to an attic is nice. Unfortunately, my wife will not allow that here. Above the three car garage is our bedroom. No go. When we met in college, we had a small block on a stand in the kitchen. Had to eat in the dining room. She eventually did away with that option also.

At the shop I have the means to lift the 272 Formula right up and suspend it if I want. Plucking engines or outdrives in or out is not hard to do at all. It is fun being an engineer.... LOL. Except in social settings.......

No the work continues on having the kids strip more wood out of the boat and start removing the transom. I have never stripped a transom before, not sure how it is going to go. It is wet, but not rotten so it might not release the easiest and I do not want to destroy the outer skin. Will take it easy, that is for sure.

    Jim/ Brian,
I recently picked up this O.T.C. engine hoist for lifting engines. It will go up 10 foot high @ 2,000 lbs.
My old Farm & Fleet hoist with the boom fully extended was only good for 500 lbs and would get a bit tippy
at times. The legs on this one also extend outward to straddle larger objects.

So I finally took the step and lowered the 3.0 into the dyne to see how it would fit. Going in, looks like it would be tight...... This 3.0L is huge compared to the 1.8L Volvo.

So with the motor dropped all the way down in, things were not looking good.... Carb is on the wrong side. Exhaust sticks up in the stock location. The thermostat is touching the front of the engine bay and the flywheel cover is touching the transom wood spacers. No wood on transom yet, just put a double layer of some 3/4" play I had as a spacer.

So here is the inner transom plate sitting off tot he port side. The engine still needs to slide forward 3" to get the bolts to drop in..... IMG_2810.JPG

So even if I cut out the front of the compartment lip, I can only slide the engine forward about 2" before the thermostat housing hits the front. Then you are talking some serious changes.... Could be done, but...... IMG_2818.JPG IMG_2817.JPG

Then I run into this problem. As mentioned, the carb is on the wrong side and the stock exhaust hits the hatch cover. I HAVE TO have the nacelle hood scoop on this thing. So the engine is back out, pushed to the side until I figure out something with the Volvo. My next step is to get the volvo running and then make a decesion.
Can't believe I bought a whole boat for $800 and then find out I can not use any of it on this thing.... And to top it off, the 3.0 is not in great shape, found the block has a freeze crack in it. At least I can sell parts off of it as it does seem to be in great shape. Oh-well, boat living up to it's name...

OK those look really cool, and talk about small. Still, I really am not looking for HP in this boat. The 100+ I will end up with will be just fine.
