I think it was in 76 that the Hodags did the one joint show with the MinAquaBats in Minaqua. I am also not sure if our Dyne was an 18' Tournament Skier - it may have been a 16 footer. We had twin Johnson 115's on it. I know the present owner of that boat - Dan Skinner who was also a member back then. He restored the boat a decade ago and uses it as one of his personal boats with a single 175 Merc on it now. I think it is time for Jim to chime in about 16 footers vs 18 footers. I also apologize for hijacking this thread but this is a small site that does not get much action in the winter so that is how I justify it. Thats my story and I am sticking to it.

Keep it going. It's great, or start a new thread if you wish. The site has been dead.

As far as I know, the only boats that look like the 18's (low profile) are the 18's.

This is the best forum I have ever been a part of and I think we should keep it going. I realize that it is winter up there and the boats are stored. Mine only comes out when my daughter is here on vacation. She was a member of the Chain Skimmers in Conover WI.

We had a place in the Sylvania wilderness at Watersmeet MI. I commuted from Chicago and my family spent summers there for 18 years. My parents and brother had places on the same lake. The parents place is a landmark. It was built in 1914. It is a 2 story 6 bedroom log home with a full basement. Ours was built in 1924. The folks spent a few winters up there. He bought a John Deere bulldozer to clear the snow. I used it to build a driveway and parking area.

Jim - are you saying that all 70's era 18's are Tournament Skiiers?

I'm not sure I understand the question. I do not know which models were AWSA tournament approved. I have heard some I/O's referred to as tournament skiers.

I am saying that the low profile boats with the bubble deck were all 18's as far as I know.

Mr. Jim, you have been blessed in your life. With your career in Aviation and a superior family to boot. Your son now flies for the Good Lord. Your magnificent daughter taught the swivel ski community the true meaning of excellence in achievement. You darn well better stick around here for a really long while. I did a few motorcycle rides up to the U.P. prior to getting married and the place, while somewhat limited in population, was exceptionally beautiful. I have heard tell of the Lake Gogebic area. Somehow I have to think that Gogebic would be a good ski lake at dawn under a stalled occluded front. Or a Super Tournament Skier measuring roughly 40 feet pushing 8500 pounds would provide a nice surface minus the chop. It may be close to skiing on Lake Michigan off the beach in southwest Michigan in a light chop. Trying to run for the cover of the Lee shore on Lake Michigan is unfortunately not an option as it is 70 miles plus. I have given serious thought to sticking to the Sister Lakes region near the milepost 39 exit on I-94. There's a fine place to ski on weekdays, Magician Lake. Free ramp, ample Parking, and really nice on weekdays. All of us yahoos from the flatlands run up there at obscene speeds on weekends (not me, the old Cherokee burns fuel like an ocean liner regardless of whether the Dyne is hooked up or not). OK, a little bit off topic, but...in 2012 the Venerable Cherokee needed a new engine. I borrowed my sainted father's Mercedes ML 350 and rented a U-Haul tandem axle car hauler trailer to deliver the Jeep Cherokee to the mechanic of choice. Now I know why Janis Joplin wanted a Benz. Pulling the loaded trailer, the Benz achieved the same miles per gallon as the Cherokee gets on a perfect driving day with only a driver aboard. And With a stiff tailwind. The Cherokee is a great tow vehicle. Now I understand why people convert them to diesel power.

Thank you Tim, I have been blessed. Life is pretty easy down here in the southland.

By the way I still have the tow vehicle that I bought when I retired to tow the boat back and forth between Illinois and Florida. It has outlasted three Cadillacs. 1996 Chevy Impala. We still drive it every day. I have never kept a car this long. It just keeps on keeping on, and no rust in this part of the world.

Jim, do you still have your 3 Jeeps? It would be great if Jeep would return to the 2004-2006 Wrangler Unlimited 2 door. The four door just doesn't do it for me. There is a kit to make a 4 door into a 2 door. It is around 15 thousand bucks.

I still have two. One is for sale, but it is a project. I have to have at least one to launch the boat in the yard. I need to sell a bunch of stuff.

There are some nice used unlimited 2 doors down here. No rust. There are a lot of nice used cars here.

Pam has a four door, it's pretty big. They like it. I doubt if they will ever be without a Jeep again.
