I'm sure if we talked to Rockford they would help us find a spot at the site. I will be at the November NSSA meeting in Florida and can talk to them at the meeting if you want me to. Edd
It seems like the majority of people are in wisconsin and illinois, but the River Rat site is always open. We ski on the Mississippi River on the north side of downtown Minneapolis. There is one boat landing about 2/3 mile south, and one landing about 2 miles north. You can run the river as far south as you want. There are a few locks that you can go through as you work your way through Minneapolis and St. Paul. You can even get to the Minnesota River and work your way back up that if you so choose (that is where we like to do our barefoot relay).
Ok here is the Run down: Tim Sprandel has volunteered his time and we have started talking on the phone about 2008. Boats: All Hydrodyne, The Dyne, Dyna-Ski and RUA Riverside Composite boats. If you don't have a dyne but love's them bring your other brand boat. I know there will be at least one person that brings a Mastercraft or Malibu (there has always been that one odd boat out at every Regatta I have seen) Date: Should be a time when we would not interfere with a Show Ski team (I would like everyone to be able to come) Weekend to minimize School or work schedules. I will be taking a week and a half off for the drive and to get there early to set things up. Location: Somewhere in the western section of IL, that borders WI. So Suggestions in that area. Preferably a lake so we don't have to deal with current or ever changing logs etc... A show site would be great do to the facilities. One with Hotels/Motels within easy driving distance So let me know. So if your show team might be gracious enough to consider letting us use your site let me know and we can talk about what it will take (i.e. insurance, fees etc...) Action/Food: I figure Saturday will be the big day so I was thinking of a BBQ wagon that would come out and have all the food and everything catered for that evening. While I won't sanction any Jumping or anything like that (That will be up to the Show Team) i am sure there will be plenty of skiing, after all that is the heart of a Dyne. So Please give your input. Both Tim and I figure that this is the right time to plan for a big nationwide event so that people can figure out what is going on. Daniel
Daniel, Sounds very interesting. We will be at Rockford and also at Warsaw for the D2 Nationals in 2007. A meeting of the DYNES is going to be fascinating. Will be following this. bev
Hello there, We are a very fortunate group to have the leadership and open-mindedness of Daniel, aka 2mercs. I am really looking forward to this event and I will be diligent in my attention to detail to ensure the maximum level of enjoyment for all attendees, and to be certain that for those who cannot attend for whatever reason(s), that there are huge numbers of pics and videos posted to the site. Hopefully, the entire forum membership and all available ski clubs will bring themselves and their Dynes to make this a most excellent convocation, and a place to begin planning the 2010 event. Please post your thoughts on the Regatta. There have been good ideas expressed so far and this event will be the best if we all offer our input. Thanks, Tim
The time we have now could impact the '08 Regatta very positively if a few suggestions could be posted or emailed to DJones@hydrodyners.com or to myself. While the Dynes up here in the north are sleeping, our minds could be generating concepts, thoughts, and ideas to make the event a total success. This would also include thoughts on sites for the Regatta. You Have Our Gratitude!
Now The time has come to start planning. Tim I will call you in the next week or so, let me know what your schedule is looking like. I am working 3pm-11pm PST with Sunday Mondays off. Daniel
We mean 2008 because it will be necessary to get a suitable site, find accomodations, get a pig roast for Saturday and have a place for parking boats at the ramp big enough to get everyone on board. By having it in '08, it also gives the "members of the forum" more than enough time to make plans to get the time off and hopefully to spread the word about the event and get the maximum number of Dyners involved. I have spoken to Must Ski Motors about using the Beaverland site. Erich explained how the park is set up and that one of their finest sponsors does pig roasts. There are about 50 parking spaces, there is a good boat ramp right there and the Must Skis have portable docks nearby to help out with boat docking. Motels are only 5 minutes away in Beaver Dam and the lake is 6600 acres. Daniel suggested in an earlier post that since the majority of people are from Wisconsin and Illinois, we should locate it near the border on a lake, hopefully at a ski club site. I live in the west suburbs of Chicago and I have weekends off to do some traveling to find a great site to get this event going. If anyone knows of an excellent site near the Illinois/Wisconsin border, please post it here and explain why it would make for a great event location. Thanks, Tim
Many of us will be meeting in Rockford at the Nationals, including Daniel and Jim will be flying his 777 in to join us as well to discuss the Regatta. Very Happy
