Thanks to my friend Susan T. for this idea. I have wanted to try pumpkinhead skiing for a few years now, and I finally had the opportunity this fall. I must say that you’ll never fully appreciate how heavy pumpkins are until you have worn one on your head. I started with the pumpkin on my head for a sitting dock start and it was a perfect example of Newton’s First Law of Motion – A pumpkin at rest tends to stay at rest until a swivel skier’s face acts upon it. This caused hysterical laughter in the boat, but other onlookers on the lake seemed to have no reaction except, “Huh, there go the Millers again.”
