Hello, I was wondering what your thoughts were on Mechanical Controls vs. GPS, or ICON, Controls? We are considering purchasing a new motor, 2014 Evinrude E-tec 200 H.O, we currently have a 1982 Hydrodyne 20' boat, how hard would it be to install new ICON controls? What would be the price difference between the two controls if purchased new? Thanks, Victor
The controls are excellent. Unfortunately the pricing structure hurts single engine applications. You are looking at $3000 or so just for the controls/engine adaptor kit. Twin engine boats are not that much more.
For the price difference would you recommend ICON controls over the standard mechanical controls for a single rig?
Alot depends on the use of the boat. If you are pulling hundreds of hours of swivel or slow stuff then I would say yes. If barefoot or slalom probably not where the precision is not as important. I think I would lean toward mechanical controls and then if you really want you can always add it.
Ok. We mostly pull Slalom skiing through the course and some bare footing once in awhile. Thanks for all the info, this will greatly help. Victor
