That looks like a KW boom. Mine is the same thing, except instead of the vertical bar that goes down to the gunnel (gunwale?), the first section of boom has a double curve (down then back up) so it sits on top of the gunnel near the rub rail. Makes for more of an angle up on the end of the boom, but it works. I would take a picture of it, but it's still being stored at the bottom of the river.
That is a K.W. boom. With the adjustable clamp on the pylon you can raise or lower the boom by moving the clamp up or down. I had to adjust it so the end of the boom was higher for the kids, and they kind of had to reach for it when they were in the water, but it was more comfortable when the were footing. I built a stainless steel support leg that went from the deck (where the "T" bar sits on it) to the floor of the boat. I took my time and belt sanded the upright tube until it fit perfectly, tack welded it while it was in place with the mig (because of the different angles needed) then pulled it out and tig welded the entire thing. I then roughed up the glass with a small disc grinder and glue it in with 3M's Plexus. This now will support the deck if someone hangs on the boom and puts excess pressure on that area. Bob
Sounds like you've got it all covered. I like the way mine sits on the deck near the rub rail, but I like how your's is elevated from the deck so the angle isn't so high to get some distance from the water. I'm pretty sure mine will hold up. The first person I had on it was over 250lbs. Have to turn the motor full right to get him started.
That was weird having to totally turn the engine to the right when first taking off then staightening out as you gain speed. Was your boom also a K.W. ?? I had Karl make me this one when I had my 20foot "BarefootHydrodyne" boat and I kept it when I sold it and bought this 18 footer. It's a nice sturdy piece, and stores well when not in use. Bob
Yup, it's a K.W. He must have figured it was cheaper to put a couple bends in the first tube then to make the support bracket that is on yours. And you are correct. They do store nicely. I can't even tell it's below me every time I drive or ski over it.
