    Hi Guys,

Any leads on where I could find a replacement skeg for my '74 Dyne? The one on the boat right now has been repaired with a new piece welded on and it's currently bent.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Check with Tom Miller. He's still using them in the construction of new boats.

    Thanks Bob.

I'll have a few questions for Tom when I call him. I'll try and save them for one call so I'm not bugging him every day.

I've got more questions for "yous guys in the know" as I work begin working on this boat.

Phase 1 - the cleanup, is complete.
Phase 2 - the analysis, is ongoing.

Tom Miller at Fiberglass Products and Boat Repair has replacement FINS made of fiberglass for $150 plus shipping.

He said they will fit a 1974 18' Hydrodyne. Tom said they stopped ordering aluminum fins because to keep costs reasonable, he had to order 100+ fins at a time. He also said the new fiberglass fins are stronger than the aluminum ones.

That's what is on mine now (the fiberglass one), and I haven't had an issue with it. Some of the paint or gelcoat (whatever he cotaed it with) has started to come of on the leading edge, but nothing serious. I use mine on a river typically, so there is a ton of debris that gets run over. On a lake, there would be very little chance of seeing any of the minor damage I have seen.

No issues at all. It came on the boat a year and a half ago.

When I purchased my boat new, the tracking fins (not one large one, but individual ones) came in a box with some stainless steel screws. I was not sure how they would hold up. I ran my boat in all types of waters, and never had an issue with damage to the new ones. The interesting aspect was mounting them to the hull. I had an original Hydrodyne full fiberglass "Bat Wing" trailer, which made it impossible to mount the fins lying on the ground. We had to virtually slide the hull almost half off the trailer to have enough room to fit a body (my skinny days, before being married to a good cooking wife) between the trailer and the hull in order to mount them. That was one of those America's Funniest Video moments that I wish I could have had on video tape.
