has anyone used a jackplate on a Hydrodyne around 1970 to 1974, I HAVE A SHORT SHAFT JOHNSON 115 HP but want to go bigger to a 200 to 300 hp but cannot find a short shaft
20' hydrodyne? I know the Rock Aqua Jays use jackplates on their triples, and seem to have excellent results. Why the difficulty finding a 20" 200+? There should be plenty of ski team motors available for a pretty reasonable price. Where are you located? If you can find an Evinrude 200HO (big block) or a G2 200, that should be plenty of motor to go around on a 20' dyne. Worst case scenario, you could replace the lower of a 25" to get it to a 20".
thank you i am in Canada West Coast close to Oregon i am doing a total resort on the 18 foot Hydrodyne i have a new 3 inch transom, stringers, floor, now on to the interior, then external paint or regelcoat with color, most of what i see here is a 25 inch and i am told that is not good on a Dyne.
I should state that I am not sure if the Rock Aqua Jays use 20" or 25" lower units. They have jack plates, that is all I know. On an 18' dyne, a big block 200 is plenty sufficient. If you really want something bigger, go for it. It could be fun, or it could be a nightmare. As far as getting the weight another 5" higher on an 18' dyne, I would not do it. But mine has been upside down from doing around the boat with 3 guys and a 200HO. I am down to a 150HO now, and it is sufficient, but not as fun. I know in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois, there are quite a few 20" lower unit Evinrudes available every fall. Everything from 150 to 250HO typically. There should be some G2's popping up as well. If you are willing to pay for shipping, I would bet you could still get a reasonable price on an appropriate motor for your boat. Most of the ski teams around here use Evinrude. Many of those teams rotate their motors every year or two. The motors will still have some warranty (depending on how long they were used by the team, and how their program is set up). I am not sure if the warranty would transfer into Canada though. I am also not sure how the taxes and shipping would work with going into Canada.
thank you for all the info the project is much more then i was expecting but has been fun, so when it is ready for the water i want it to hall ass,, thanks again take care
And haul ass it will. The real fun part about these boats is not necessarily the speed. It is the handling. And that handling is greatly improved with as low of a center of gravity as possible.
ok ty all i am just in the process of putting the motor well back on the boat the boat then new carpeting or better then seating, gauges, wiring and new custom fuel tanks so boat will not hit the water until the spring with the Johnson 115 V4 that i have until i find the new motor thanks again all
