Hi, I just joined the website. I own a 1968 Hydrodyne and I'm looking for a cheap replacement canvas cover. The boat does not have a windshield. Any ideas? Thanks, David
I went with a custom-made cover for my 68, made at a local tarp/canvas shop. While $300 may not be cheap, the dyne is worth protecting from the elements. I also added a good-sized air vent that the pole fits into. It's important to allow boats to breathe, especially when covering wet in the summer. Do you have pics posted of your 68?
Thanks for your quick reply. I don't have photos on this computer. The boat is stored at Lake Powell in Utah. I was hoping to find a Overtons or Cabellas that might have a ready made cover. I plan to visit Powell next month and I'll snap some new photos. I've owned my dyne since 1980. I replaced the 302 engine two years ago, but haven't broke it in yet. I'd be interested if you had any photos. Do you have the Red and Teal stripe on the front bow? DG
If you searching for my past posts by author, you'll find plenty of photos. My boat and I/O was fully restored in the mid 80s from the inside out and the traditional stripes went to black. Without a windshield, I was unable to find a good fit with an Overton's cover, but maybe you'll find something that will work. Good luck and welcome to the site!
The 18' dyne is so far away from what most people call a "normal" shaped boat, that you will most likely not find a stock cover that fits well. I got a cheapy one for my first couple of years (that's all it lasted for, 2 summers and one winter in storage) that ended up being way too big. It pulled down almost to the trailer on the sides, cover the spare tire up front, and still had a ton of extra material. I will be making a new one in the near future. Will post some pics of the process and final results.
