New outboard needed - input appreciated

I just sold 6 optimax 225 for $9800/each with 75 hours on them for one year. Our member mechanic charges 500 for rigging.

If I was selling our new Pro Xs 250 at the end of season, they would go for $11,000, with 75 hours them.

Thought I would give some Merc prices. Stay away from the Verado. Way to heavy. If you go Merc get a Pro XS. Much nicer than the standard Optimax

After further discussion with the mechanic who said there's no way he'd put that engine in the water if it were his, I requested quotes for the 150 Optimax, 175 Pro XS (regular Opti doesn't come in 175), and the ETEC

As suggested, I did ask them to itemize the Sea Star hydraulics in the quote.

How mechanical do you need to be to install it?

You can find some good deals on the entire Sea Star kit on "E" Bay or the internet. The instructions are very good, and can be done with normal hand tools. They come with different displacement helms which would be like your standard steering ratio or your quick steering ratio. Do some research on their web site as it will be explained there.

I think that the 175 ProXS would be an excellent engine for your boat. Good luck with your project !!!!

If you are still considering E-tec, I can check and see if our dealer still has any of our take-offs from last year. Would most likely be a 150 E-tec with 2 summers of use. There is a chance there is also a 200 HO still. Price should be under 10k US for the 150 (I haven't been watching the prices for a few years now, so can't give an actual number... the dealer will work that out with you), and it is sold through our dealer. Located less than an hour northeast of Minneapolis.

You would have a several options for rigging that they could help you with as well, but your Merc controls will not just bolt right up. There may be some adapters that will make them work for a pretty reasonable price, but a new throttle assembly may be in order. If so, I really like the new style BRP concealed side mount throttle.

And with the steering, I highly recommend the high volume helm (2.4 cu in, I believe). But if funds are tight, you could hold off for a year or two if you go with a small block, as long as your current system is still in good working order.

I have a set of controls that would work with the Opti if you purchase one . They came off my 18 footer when I converted to Livorsi dual lever. Comes with correct cables.
