Jim touched on this before, but what should I be looking for. I would like to try to fix this on my own.

Motor starts up 1st turn of the key and runs strong . Put the motor in gear and it strains then stalls. In nutreal you can spin the prop but with some pressure. The motor has sat for about 7-8 years.

    Thanks

I would drain the lower unit and check for water. Refill and pull the prop and check for anything tangled on the shaft. I assume it has fresh fuel in it.

It sounds like the idle transfer circuit is clogged up in you carburetors. This is common after sitting. Have you ever had a carburetor apart?
