Do not use automotive accessories on your maring engine, FYI

    I think most of you are aware of this, but if you are not, read on.

    It is tempting to use automotive components on your boat engine because they look the same and they are cheaper.

    Here is a pretty good description of the differences between marine carbs and automotive carbs:

    The same applies to fuel pumps and fuel lines in the fuel system.

    There are components in the electrical system that are marine only also, including starter, starter relay, alternator, and distributor.

    The marine fuel components help prevent fuel vapors being trapped in the bilge. The marine electrical components help prevent an ignition source.

    There may be more marine components that I did not think of.
