    Hey Jim:

I own a 75 i/o (pictures are posted somewhere on the page) and have no intentions to upgrade or sell. My curiousity was sparked when I saw the ads that twin rig posted a while back with a newer three rivers industries hulls as an i/o. I had never seen a hydrodyne i/o older than the 1978 bubble top tournament skier.

Great looking boat but still wonder about the wake characteristics.

    77 Dyne 18 I/O converted to Outboard
    Kevin,

My answer was based on your comment about wanting more room. I saw your boat. Mine was an I/O and I converted it to an outboard.

Now, as an outboard the performance with 5 aboard is about the same as the I/O with two aboard. Also, the 18 has a lot more room as an outboard, specially if it has the back seat.

The 18 has a three to one aspect ratio, ie 18 feet long and 6 feet wide. The 20 has a lower aspect ratio and I wonder if that affects the wake. I know that the wake behind my daughter's 17.6 has a different shape and is more turbulent than my 18. I have laid on the aft deck of my boat and studied the wake. I can tell you that there is a vortex coming off the spray rails and it interacts with the vortex off the prop on the left side.

I have often wondered how the wake would be behind a 20.5 ft by 82 inch wide boat. That would be the same aspect ratio as the 18. If it were built with a short fore deck and a minimum aft deck it would have a ton of room in it, probably more than any 20 footer out there. It would be a pretty boat if it were patterned after the 18. That is the boat that should have been built.
