Take a look at this in your spare time:

A good prop shop can remove the cup. It will reduce the effective pitch, reduce the effective rake, and reduce the turbulence in the wake. It will also reduce the tendency for the stern to squat when you add power to pull up a skier.

The motor will initially spin freer, and have more thrust. It will make me happy because it will act very much like a 17. It will make you happy because it is a 19. It is a win win situation. ;)

I would also take a look at the Mercury Vengeance and buy the one with the least rake.

Your brother's boat needs all the help it can get. You might want to run the stock 19 for a while until you are comfortable.

I never run the fuel pumps on a Opti without fuel. The fuel lubricates and cools the pumps. There are 2 pumps (high&low pressure) Pressurize the line with a fuel bulb then turn the key on for 5 secs. Then repeat until the bulb is hard. 2-3 times.

Ok. I won't run it again until I get fuel in there. I will be putting in the fuel tank tomorrow. Got the battery and oil tank in this evening.

    thanks!
