I had a guy with a 18' approach me about converting his OB setup to an I/O. Sounds like something worth considering, but it sounds like a giant can of worms opening. Has anyone ever seen it done before? What all goes into it?

    Thanks,

I converted my I/O to an outboard and everything improved. I think it would be a mistake, but it could be done. It would require a new transom, the motor mount stub stringers, and floor modifications. The rear deck would have to be modified and an engine cover fabricated.

A V-8 will increase the weight of the boat by 500 to 600 pounds and move the cg aft considerably. Handling and performance will suffer.

I talked to a guy about 20 years ago that converted one to a center engine inboard. He was not happy with it.
