    I like that a lot.

I just went out and measured my deck. It is 72 in at the transom and 73 1/4 in two feet forward of the transom. The twin rig pylons look wider than 66 in the pictures (to me).

    That is slick!

I think maybe I should do that. I'm not sure I follow what you are saying about moving the pilon foreward. Couldn't you have just made the rope guard taller and get the same result?

Also, my rough measurements suggest to me that my pilon isn't going to be tall enough with the Optimax motor. My fabricator friend told me that he could make a new top piece for the pilon and add some inches. Has anyone else had problem with height on these older Hydrodyne 18 pilons when using a taller engine?

By the way - I love the boat, too. Cool stripe pattern. Very nice.

It looks like he moved it forward to let the rope guard be in front of the motor instead of making it taller. Either way should work.

As far as the pylon being tall enough, remember that the boat runs at some deck angle, so measurements are difficult. I suggest you run it first and see

This is the way I bought the boat. I think when 1964 dyne (old owner) went to rig the boat with the new motor, the rope guard interfered with the tilt and trim of the motor. So instead of reworking the pylon, they just moved the pylon forward. I have not had any problems with the rope getting tangled with the motor, but I do the same as Jim and keep the skier a bit to starboard to keep an eye on them.

    Thanks for the compliments,
    Rob

Just goes to show you that most of my boating seems to be done on the trailer lately. I forgot about the fact that the boat will be down in the water and will have a deck angle.

So these things actually go in the water after all.... Embarassed

Mine has been in the water once in about the last 3 years. Makes me quite an authority on the subject! Wink

    Mark,

I would definately secure them in some manner to keep them on for good. Too nice (and rare) to see them vibrate loose and end up at the bottom of some lake. He did a great job of bringing them back to life.
