Restoration Preview - Shoebox Strip Replacement

    While we are on the subject of corner cap replacment, and the strips they are attached to, here's a preview of what is to come in the restoration section. Attached are pictures which show how to repace the 1/2 strip inside the shoebox joint between hull and deck.

    First, notches must be cut for the sections at the bow, just as on the original design, so that the strip will make the turn around the bow. A radial arm saw works well for this. Use two strips that meet at the very tip of the bow. Next, soak the strips so that the wood does not break when it is bent and inserted. Third, insert the strip and pound it into place. Presto. You are now ready to bold the deck and hull back together.
