Has anybody replaced the starter on a I/O Dyne with a Ford 302? Mine is 30 years old, so I wasn't surprised that it crapped out this morning. But it looks like my arms need to be about six feet long to do it without pulling the motor. Thanks for any tips you might have.

I replaced one on a 305 chevy, and I pulled the motor. The drive should be pulled every 2 years anyway to grease the u-joints and check the alignment. The engine comes out easily with an engine hoist after the drive is off.

also remember that fords use a seperate solinoid that is not mounted on the starter. check that first before replacing the starter.
