I just have bought a 1962 hydrodyne to restore. I took the outdrive to a local shop works on a lot of old marine outdrives. They called today to say theuy did not have the tools required to put it back together so they didn't tear in down to rebuilt. Please advise if anyone knows where I can get the outdirve refurbished.
It is a volvo penta the engine is an AQ100. I didn't see a model number on the casing of the drive. However, it is my understanding that it is orginal. I have never had a boat with an outdrive so I know very little about restoring them. Also I wonder if an updated drive could be used with the AQ100 volvo engine if restoration is not possible.
Start to look for Volvo-Penta dealerships in your area. They would be you best bet for having the special tools to work on it. Is there a problem with the outdrive now, or are you just trying to be preventative?
I don't know how functional the outdrive is it was not on the boat. As I plan to do a complete restoration of the boat I don't want to run into trouble later. Can the unit be upgraded to a new drive?
Do a google search for volvo outdrive. There are a couple of companies that specialize in them and can help with your question. I would call them rather than e-mail. The AQ100 is a very early drive and can probably be updated. jim
