Since we are showing garages and shop I figured I would put mine in. Unfortunately I have not been able to really set it up as I am remodling the house but hopefully in the next few months I will drywall the entire thing and paint the floors.

Ah... Nice! A man's shop is his castle. I can picture myself in there emptying a beer or two with you sometime. Indeed, I'll be out your way soon. I'll have to figure out where, exactly, I'm going to be and how far it will be from you.

Is that the vent line going at an angle out of the hot water heater?

Yes the water heater vent angles up and out. Right above the water heater is a big bonus room so I guess that is what they had to do. I could have found a better place for it but hey when it goes bad I plan on putting in one of those tankless deals in. My parents have one and it cut their propane bill 75%. Plus it will give me a bit more room to get the boat in farther back. Right now the boat takes up a bit more then 1.5 spaces of a 3 car garage.

With the hot water heater right there, it would be easy to install a utility sink, too. Usually code requires a floor drain, so if that's the case you'd already have a drain there to tie into. A shop sink is handy.

Thats an idea, I also have a laundry room right off the garage that does not have a sink. I bought a stackable washer/dryer and I am going to put in a deep sink and tie it into the washer drain.

The problem here is that code does not specify a drain for the water heater (Probably why it is in the garage) The overflow for the hot water just drains to a spout that sticks out the side of the house.

Let me know when you are out this direction. I might be in the Chicago area sometime in April for work I will let you know.

    Daniel,

If you have the room for it, you might consider putting up a "Hydrodyne Hut" and get all three spaces in your garage back. Inside the hut I put in a 5 tier shelving unit and got all the gas cans..spare props...life jackets...ropes, anchors & bumpers etc. stored away and out of the garage. Plans for this summer is to bring power out there. I've already purchase two 8 ft. high inten. lights, temp. controlled shutter fan, and a alarm system. I still have to come up with some type of wall storage system to rack up the skis. Projects like this are fun and the end results can be great.

Note- the alarm is a direct result of numerous late night "anonymous" phone calls threatening to steal the boat and take it for a joy ride on the Fox River. ;)
