I have not done it personally. It is a lot of work. Please do not junk the boat. Someone will be willing to take it on. There is a lot of info in the restoration section. jim
GVW: Jim's right. Take a look at the restoration section of the Site and make contact with those that have gone through the re-core process. If you have the time and a little $$, the re-core will bring back the needed structural elements of the hull. For the best results, you will need to remove the top deck to gain full access to the project. I have not performed a re-core but have replaced the floor and it was not too bad of a task. I used a dremmel with a tile bit to cut through the fiberglass seams that held the floor to the hull and had excellent control. Another tip from Jim earlier in this string is one I incorporated with the floor replacement by using a 50/50 acetone and poly resin mix to seal the marine ply floor ( or end-grain balsa in your case) before glassing into place. I have attached a pic of a flat-top with the core being placed "back in the day; hope this helps. Good luck and Happy Holidays! Kevin-
Hey GVW: I left out a rather important point, when working with polyester resin, make sure your work space is well ventilated and if you have access to one with the right cartridges , definately wear a respirator. There are a lot of nasty fumes associated with polyester resin (haven't worked with epoxy and may be a better option for health related fumes but more $$). I did some work with poly resin on a snow mobile back in high school (late 70's in the fall) with the gaage closed and got one hell of a chemical hang over; missed school for a couple days. When I replaced the floor of my 75, it was in the early summer with the garage doors open, fans running and a respirator from work (I'm in the environmental cleanup industry and we have access to them as personal protective equipment). Good luck and provide us with progress updates and questions. Kevin-
Hello Jim. It’s been awhile. I sold that mushy bottom flattop from 2010 and found another good one. I/o this time. Looking for some info on a v-4 ford. Do you or anyone else know anything about them? Thanks GVW
