It has been a bit slow over here so I thought that I would share some pictures of another one of my hobbies. I restore old radios for the heck of it, one of those things that I fade in and out with. I usually work on them in the winter months. I have 2 on the bench a 1938 Philco 38-10 which is not finished and this little guy. This one is a 1941 Philco 41-220. I rewired and re capped (Capacitor) the chassis, it only required one replacement tube and a cabinet refinish. Here are the before and after pictures. Daniel
I have an old Atwater Kent that belonged to my great grandparents. Have you ever heard of it? It doesn't work. It did when I was a kid, though.
Atwater-Kent was very large in its day. The owner shut down the factory when the employees tried to unionize and never reopened again. Probably just needs to be recapped and have the tubes checked. Very basic radios. Jim your old Farm unit is a bit harder to work with since they took a couple of different batteries (A low voltage High Amperage for the Filaments and a high voltage low amperage for the rest) both are cool radios. Daniel
Thanks for the info Daniel! Since things are slow, here are a few pics from last summer: In order: 1. My Dad in the Dyne. 2. My daughter on the slalom (she's 8 years old) 3. My oldeest son on the slalom (he's 10) 4. My oldest brother going double with my youngest son. 5. Same (Uncle Jim and Ben) 6. Daddy-Daughter Doubles. Unfortunately, that's me. 7. My youngest son on the slalom (he's 8 - he and his sister are twins) 8. My oldest brother Jim - yes, he's 44 and can still ski, but I'm better (sorry, Jim). 9. Cool photo of my daughter filming a skier. This is a really cool shot - I got lucky. 10. Mark, Jr. caught a Northern Pike - very exciting! Hope you enjoy these cabin-days photos. Makes me long for summer!
Great pictures Mark. That is what that boat was built for. It looks like your dad is comfortable in the boat. A whole new generation of Dyners. jim
Just as a heads up if anyone finds an old radio in a garage, barn or antique store that needs restoration let me know. Finding good deals on old radios is few and far between out west and I am always looking for a project. Daniel
I would be except that shipping floor models is very cost prohibitive. I have never looked into what a console would cost to ship. Do you have a model number or a picture? Daniel Crosley radios are really nice though
