Looking for help to find hydrodyne information. Pulled the boat down out of the boat house after almost 30 years...became a home for raccoons. Got it cleaned, pulled the motor (165 straight 6), got it running. New fuel tank ordered today. Can I get wiring diagrams, venders to buy equipment (like old morse throttle etc.)? Just starting, just learning; any help would be great...thank you in advance.
The mercruiser wiring diagrams are available in the mercruiser manuals. The lights and other boat wiring are pretty standard. Just ask a specific question here. I believe Morse throttle/shifters are still available. They are really intended for inboards. http://www.go2marine.com/item/89497/ski-boat-engine-control-ch2200-ch2200.html Those morse throttle/shifters have a nice throttle response, but they are pretty hard on outdrives. Plus they do not have the trim in the throttle which is the only way to go. I have modified the old morse style to have trim in the handle, but it is a lot of work and it looks funky. Any outboard or I/O throttle that pulls on the cable for advancing the throttle and has the proper cable adapters should work. I would retain the ignition switch in the dash as it is now. If the boat is a 74 it is an 18. jim
I am rebuilding the same type boat. It is very likely as mentioned, an 18 I-O. Since all I started with was a virtually empty hull with a Ride Guide helm and a Morse shifter, I pulled the shifter out and cleaned, painted and lubed it. It looks very good and works like new. If the cables are frozen you can probably break them loose with penetrating oil ( not WD40...) and flexing them. I can't think of much that could happen to one that couldn't be fixed.
This would be my weapon of choice: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Control-Box-Flush-Side-Mount-Pt-6X3-48206-01-00-/271204922162 jim
