Anyone tried one of these? I have had the cable buddy 2 on my motor for nine years and the steering cable is as free as new. I can grab the motor and move it full travel easily. http://www.davisnet.com/Marine/products/list_marine.asp?grp=m18-1 http://www.davisnet.com/product_documents/marine/manuals/420CblBudENGL.PDF jim
I have not tried it but I wish I would have known about it a few years back. The ride guide on my Dyne before I went hydralic was tight. Daniel
Do they make a similar product for shift and throttle cables? Most of the multi rigs I have seen are good for going through a set of shift and throttle cables every 2-3 years due to the bends that are necessary when mounting the controls.
yes they do I don't have a picture handy but they are around $10. I will go out to my tool box and snap a pic of it later so you can see. I bought ine from the Snap-On tool guy but I have seen them at Sears also. Daniel
I have not used these, but I hear they are quite good. You have to use adapters for your installation. I am going to try them. https://www.surplusunlimited.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=0300-23 jim
Yep, we use the Teleflex Xtreme cables on all of our boats with yamaha or Livorsi controls. They are much more flexible than other cables and really are smooth.
Do you know if that price is for one cable, or a set of two cables? If it's for the set, it's not much more than standard OMC cables (which pretty much suck). I believe the OMC cables are around $35 in the 16 to 18 foot range. Even just for smoother cables, I would be willing to spend the extra $15, let alone longer life, and less down time changing cables. It seems to take about 1 beer per cable, which means on a twin rig, you might as well plan on a six pack (especially if you have someone helping). Must-ski Motors, How long have your cables been lasting?
Our team uses similar cables. No matter what they cost they are worth it. Also try to avoid tilting your motors all the way up this creates a sharp bend in the cables.
On our 1997 twin rig, we just replaced the cables in 2005 for the first time since 1998. Our triple is only 3 seasons old, so the jury is still out there, but they seem to be fine. Our other twin had cables that were 5 yrs old when we replaced them, and that was the first boat we used the Xtreme cables on. The added cost is that you do have to get adaptors for the ends to work with the engine, but those are only about $10-$15.
Also, I got my first look at the new BRP controls this weekend, they are identical to the Yamaha controls except they are machined slightly different to accept the BRP OEM Cables.
