I just bought a 79 I/O and would like to put three fiberglass seats like the ones that were in my 72 in it. Any leads would be appreciated.
Your best bet for getting close to the originals would be to contact Tom Miller. His contact info is on the first post of this link: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=151 He was one of the guys that built the dynes back in the day, and still has some of the original molds and still builds boats on the side. Welcome to the site! Good to hear you have quite a few dynes in your area.
My boat is a converted I/O. I like the seats a lot. They are comfortable and allow three people to be in the most forward part of the cockpit. This weight forward is important in an I/O since it is already tail heavy. If your seats are like this, I recommend that you keep them. If you are going to replace them, I will take them off your hands unless someone else needs them for their boat. If you are going to replace them, I have a friend that has the mold for the old style Allison bass boat seats. They are very similar to the old Dyne seats. They are the same as the new Allison Bass boat seats except they are 4 inches shorter. Take a look at an Allison bass boat and see what you think. I would think they could be used without the seat covers like the Dyne did. The price unpainted is $100 each. The bottom is extra thick so you could use lag boats or flathead screws from the top. I think you could ask to have an aluminum plate glassed in and drill and tap into that for the attachment to the base if one is used. Seat covers are $65, but I recommend that you buy them locally so that you get exactly what you want as far as color and texture of the material. I have made those and they are not hard to sew at all. Let me know and I will give you the contact information in central Florida. jim
Classic airboats over on the east coast of FL sells seat shells. Most of the airboat companies do. jim
This company is in Bainbridge: http://www.airboatsunlimited.com/ The owner is Paul Dixon, he has a very good reputation in the air boat world. He might be able to help you. jim
I have three of the original fiberglass seats in my boat now. The guy that bought my 72' replaced the original seats and still had them laying around in his shop. If you have some more I might be interested though. I'm about to redo the interior in a 71' that don't have original seats and the guy wants seats like mine. Here is a pic of how mine looks now with the new(old) seats and cutdown motor box.
