    Hi everyone!

I need to buy a flywheel/engine lifting ring to pull my 2006 Merc. Optimax 225 from my boat (in order to install the wedge). I borrowed one before but the guy I borrowed it from is no longer in business. Does anyone know the diameter and thread size I need for the puller for this motor? Is it 1-1/2 x 16 thread? That is what I believe - I think it is the same for all Merc, Mariner, Yamaha except the Verado ....but want to know for sure if anyone can verify that....

I'll bet one of you knows the answer to this. Thanks!

    Mine measures 1 1/2 x 16.

Any Mercury dealer should be able to sell you one, but they might have to order it. Jay Smith on Scream and Fly might be able to overnight you one.

The lifting eye is the best way to lift it.

    Thanks Jim.

Turns out I can buy one on Ebay, if I want to pay unreasonable shipping charges. There is a slightly cheaper knock-off brand that would probably work, too, but the genuine Mercury part (91-90455-1) is about $35 plus shipping.

I have borrowed them the last two times but there is an old rule that says if you borrow something more than twice, BUY YOUR OWN! So I guess that's what I'll do.

As for the engine mount bolts, looks like I'll need 7" bolts on the top to make the wedge work. I'll have to check the specs before I look into ordering. Thanks for passing along the info on that, too!
