I have a 1987 20' Twin rig hull, I am doing wood replacement on. The hydraulic steering that came with the boat was made in France. The label on the helm is marked as follows: L pompes S ets LeComble et Schmitt urt. 64240 Hasparren France Type 35ctHB No. 8810 There are two double acting cylinders that are with it, and a tie bar. the cylinders are marked as follows: Type H L 232 I am not sure that the label on the cylinders is correct, the label is a little damaged. Is this a steering system other people are useing, and can anyone tell me about it?
It may very well be Teleflex as they are made in Canada. A couple pictures would help. The question will be if you use engines that are a different brand than what was on it, will the adaptor plates work.
Thanks for the reply, I did not see anything on the parts other than what I posted. I will try to get a picture soon, but i do not have a digital camera, so I do it the old fashioned way, film, with a photo cd. The parts make no mention of Teleflex, or Canada.
Hydraulic steering help, With pictures Here are picts of the steering parts I have. Can someone tell me about them?
I haven't seen anything like this before. Is there something wrong with the system now? I'd be inclinded to install a Teleflex SeaStar system if there are significant problems with the one you have. Have you done some basic research on the internet to see if you can find anything on your steering system?
I have a Hynaughtic (Bought By Sea Star) It looks somewhat like it, same style brackets. I really had to modify mine to make it work on twins in the dyne since the motors are so close and the basket is tight. I will see if I have any pictures. Daniel
I found a website for the steering parts. Thanks, Mark. It does not look that difficult to hook up, just hoses, cylinders, and a pump. The boat came to me with the parts, and no motors. Is there anyway to test it? I assume you use ATF in the system.
Might be safer to just buy a quart of teleflex hydraulic steering fluid. I thought I read something about the formulation being designed to minimize or optimize some attribute or another related to steering hydraulics.
We are ralking about steering on a high performance boat here. If you can rebuild it with new seals, fine. If you are in doubt, replace it. The front mounted hydraulic systems attache to the tiller arm with one bolt. Inspect it often and replace it if in doubt. It is not a hardware store bolt. jim
