No restoration is complete without adding a stereo so you can listen to some tunes - at least between skiiers. I didn't quite get to that part of my restoration last year, so it is on my short list of things to get done this winter. Any suggestions from anyone regarding a good brand of marine stereo, or a good system, or setup suggestions, would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! MarkBano
Mark, My personal suggestion is to simply install an amp and speakers and use an iPod or similar device as the input and to control volume. Unless you need am/fm this is absolutely the only way to go in my opinion.
Excellent idea. Not much radio reception where we are anyway. Of course, I hate to admit it but I do not own, nor have I ever used an ipod or similar device. I guess I really am old...
I have found that a normal radio (Not Marine ) has worked for me. I have had a Pioneer in mine in for 4 years now. I have an 8" Bazooka Bass Tube under the bow, 2 5" enlosed speakers that are mounted under the dash so you can't see them. 2 4x6 two way speakers in custom designed enclosures that match the carpet in the back. All powered by a 4 channel 200 watt pioneers amp.
Great ideas. Thanks! By the way Greg, I was born in 1967! I still have not done anything to prepare my engine for storage. Shame on me. I haven't had time. Maybe I'll just bring it to the local marine dealer and let them do it...
If you Merc is anything like the E-Tecs, you would be wasting money by having a dealer do something so simple. Dump some Stabil in the gas, run it long enough to get the stabil through the lines, run the auto-fogger, let the motor drain, and you're done.
Hi all: Transitioning to winter and looking forward to some white stuff tonight. As to stereo options, I chose to purchase a marine box and installed a standard radio and cd player (pioneer supertuner). Mounted it under the dash on the drivers side and didn't have to do any cutting on the instrument or passenger dash areas. The face plate is gasketed and I have never had a problem with moisture. I also have a 4 channel amp mounted under the dash and 4 bose marine box speakers to complete the set up. Brought the marine box through Boat US (now west marine) for around $70 as I recall. Picture is attached.
