I was at the Bats' show on Friday night. It got rained out at intermission, unfortunately.

I took some good digital video of the boat walking, too. I guess I don't need to post it, as it would show essentially the same footage.

Some of my family was at the Min-Aqua Bats show last Wednesday when the boat driver lost control of "blackie" during a Dyne Walk, almost capsized the boat, and he was actually ejected from the boat. That was all anyone wanted to talk about up there last weekend. You could see at the Friday show that the Dyne-Walk was very low key - very toned down compared to what I have seen in the past. I'm sure the driver is still trying to clean his shorts.

Personally, I hate the new boat. I was almost getting used to the blood red Dyna that they have had the last two years. Almost. I do not think I will be able to get used to this black boat. The finish looks dull. The boat is very boring, and its lines do not show with that color. I'm sure it is a fine boat, but the color choice is not a good one. The "smallish" looking E-Tech 150 salties look even smaller on this boat than they did on the red Dyna. For whatever reason (I'll leave this to you E-Tech experts) these new engines are extremely quiet. You almost don't hear them at all. I have no idea how Evinrude has pulled that off. Although this is nice from a noise pollution standpoint, it makes the boat all the more boring to watch. The inboards sound much better. No longer do we hear the roar of the twin rig as the boat takes off. The boat is boring. So absolutely, totally boring. The motors are boring. The performance of the boat even seems limited, causing my dad to think the engines were four strokes. I'm just not happy with any of it. Hopefully the ski team is happy with it. I suppose that is what matters.

The Bats have a very talented group of skiiers this year and the show is certainly worth watching, even if the twin rig puts you to sleep.

Those quiet motors are great when you are trying to have a conversation in the boat. My carbureted Johnson is quiet too. They use a plastic intake silencer and it works.

I can show you how to make your motor louder if you want.

My neighbors think my motor is plenty loud, I'm sure - but thank you Jim!

Mark - every E-Tec actually uses a muffler/silencer in the midsection. However, the E-Tecs do have a pretty distinct roar to them from behind. Was the wind blowing away from you at the show? I have to say that cruising up the lake in an E-Tec powered boat at 4000 rpms is very pleasant. You can make them loud with some trim up to expose the lower exhaust.

I don't like solid one color boats. I think some of the sharpest boats out there have different color hulls and decks.

I'm not personally a fan of tail walking the boats but obviously with them it is one of the things the crowd comes for.

When are you going to fly in to UNU and come for a ride in a single, twin and triple? This is state tournament week but after this I am pretty wide open.

    Mark,

if the Bats boat is puttin you to sleep, take a short drive over to Conover and see the Skimmers show. They got brand new twin 250s in their Dyne this year with 4 blade stainless props. He walks the boat like crazy, and that boat is just a pulling monster. I went for a ride this last week after the show, and even with me holding on as tight as i possibly could I still almost got launched to the back on the hole shot. That boat is just plain scary. If you go to the show Joey (the driver) will give you and your boys a ride. He is an extremely nice guy.

I was there when the skeeters jumped their twin between two inboard wakes at the Bat site. The boat almost went over. That was excitement.
