    93 comp
Hey guys, just got my first sport boat (I've ran commercial boats for 10 yrs.) with much research and a lot of reading these forums I got a 93 comp, and I gotta say it was love at first sight! Boats running gear had 5 hrs on it when I got it, the guy I purchased it from owns a marine shop that specializes in inboard boats, didn't know this til I drove four hours to look at it and found myself at his shop. He claims to have put in a 310 hp. Carbed engine? From what I've read this may or may not be true, but nonetheless its a new crate motor from Jasper with a warranty!! It has a new shift, cutlass, packing gland, prop. It runs awesome and drives amazing!

With all that said, here's my few questions....

    1. What is the rpm range on these motors (pcm)
I only run it at around 2700-3200. And yes I did the break in on the motor and changed oil so I'mgood to go .

2.my fuel gauge is all over the place, I've checked the wires from tank to gauge all seems fine there, so I'm guessing it just needs a new sending unit or gauge?

    3. There's a small soft spot right next to the engine compartment, stbd. Side, about 12"x12"
I already have read enough to know where this is going I. E. Stringers need inspecting/replacement :-(
Upon snooping around I've found that the floor has been redone previously and the wood was all glassed over, so I'mreally hoping that the stringers are in good shape/or rred on. The old check the engine mounts to see if screws bite has been done and passed! So she's just gonna ride for the remainder of the summer.
Now here's the question, is the a good alternative to the wood, I know there using foam for superstructures, decks, pretty much the whole damn boat! Is this a option? Also I hear lots of talk of epoxies, when I think boats of this nature I think west system? I'm fortunate to have access to a industrial marine supplier and lots of glass boat builders in the area, I just wanted to get the dyners thoughts, after all this sight heavily swayed my decision from a cc to a hydrodyne;-) 1376756680273.jpg 1376756793532.jpg

Welcome to the forum. Check PCM for rpm limits. I would guess somewhere between 4500-5000.

There is an 18 on the forum that was rebuilt using a foam core floor. Extra care and some fabrication is necessary to build the seat mounts.

If you want foam floor, look for closed cell pvc, like Divinicell, klegecell, or similar. Polyester resins will not attack and bond well. The higher density the better. I used 3/4" thick for the floor and stringers on an outboard 18 dyne. Your stringers carry the weight of a V8 so I doubt foam is an option unless the glass laminate on all sides is 1/2" thick or so. Wicks aircraft or Aircraft Spruce are sources but there are many. Make sure you are sitting down when you look at the price.

I rebuilt a rare 1985 Sylvan inboard ski boat 20ft , replaced everything with douglas fir stringers and epoxy resin. I only wish that type of torture on the taliban.
