    Hello all,

This is an excellent forum. I have owned what I believe is a 1962 Hydrodyne 1700 with 4 cylinder Volvo-Penta inboard/outboard. I have owned this boat for several years and used it extensively. Recently the outdrive has started to slip at high engine revs, prop does not keep up with engine speed. I believe I have the an early AQ 100 setup with the "dog" type clutch (not silent shift). The nearest Volvo Penta dealer to me says parts are obsolete/unavailable. What can I do to get this boat working again?

    Thanks,
    Jessbray

It sounds like the prop hub might be slipping inside the prop. Take the prop to a prop shop.

Do a google search for volvo parts. There is a site that specializes in them

    Jim,

If I remove the prop, will there be any visual evidence of the prop hub slipping? It would tickle me if there was not a problem with the sterndrive clutch.

There might be, but I would take it to a good prop shop.

I had a hub slip on me this summer (outboard, but should be similar situation). I couldn't get above about 800 rpm's without it slipping completely. In that case, I was able to put the engine in gear and still spin the prop by hand while the driveshaft stayed put. If you are getting up on plane, you probably won't be able to spin it by hand, but can certainly try. Or you could try marking the hub and prop (permanent marker or scribe a line?), running it, and checking to see if your lines still line up.

Thanks to all that replied. It was a spun prop. I had a spare prop and boat ran well after changing props. I like the spun prop best when it was working properly. It was a two blade and ran faster than the 3 blade I have on the boat now. All the prop shops around here say hubs are no longer available fro AQ100 (12 point spline). Any suggestions?

    Thanks again,
    Jessbray

Take it to a good machine shop and see what they can do. Also check e-bay. There is a site online that sell props. You can find it with google.
