Have gotten a few things done since my last update but nothing that looks good in pictures. The fuel tank and copper line are in and the deck has had the plywood strip installed and has been glassed back on to the hull. I am currently cutting the stringers, floor bulkheads, pylon mount and motor mount. I ordered the stern eyes, bow and stern lights and drain tube today. It's not like I really need them yet, but hope springs eternal as they say..... Once the floor is in I will concentrate on deck paint. Never sprayed flake so it could turn out to be an expensive lesson in final finishing... Oh well, I've messed up paint work before and was able to recover. Looks like a lot of clear coat sanding with a flake job.
Got the stringers cut out and glassed in the engine mount and the pylon mount. The engine block is 5 layers of 3/4" ply sitting on a saturated layer of 24 oz. stitchmat with 1 1/2" mat between the layers. The pylon mount is the same but the top layer is 1/2" to fit under the floor. I still need to cut out the short pieces that support the floor in the stern outside the engine box. Just too hot today to do any more, maybe when the sun gets a little lower.
Got the floor done. and got the Interlux epoxy primer shot and a few pinholes filled before it rained ....again. Working without a garage big enough for a boat sux.
deck in blue I probably should paint a couple of white stripes across the deck and re rig it but.....on to uncharted territory (for me)....metalflake.
Nice job Oldskier! I have just started a restoration (see 1972 Keel Up Restoration thread) and I was going to go with a red deck and white hull - but after seeing yours I may go blue....
Red is nice too, either way, a solid color is easy, flake is a wet sand and clear coat nightmare.....nice when its done though.
Hey Oldskier: I've followed your thread from the begining and your "budget boat" has turned into a decent restoration. Looks like you created a shadow of the bow stripes in the metal flake (or is that my imagination?). Will be posting pics of my 1985 20 i/o restoration soon. Keep up the great work. Kevin-
