Kevin, you are correct. I taped off the base blue before I shot the flake to make the stripes. Thanks guys.
The engine is only set in, not permanently mounted. The alignment will take place when the outdrive is installed, and I have an alignment tool on order. Thanks, Bernie.
1st trip to the lake, just to see if it would hold water. I stuck my trusty home made shop stool in there for a place to sit. It doubles as a lower unit stand and several other chores, all around handy device. Today it was a boat seat. The boat runs well, shifts well ( I was concerned about the neutral cut out switch adjustment, but it works pretty good.) It planes out easily, the trim is working ( I still need to hook up the trim indicator) and turns well. Unfortunately it has a slight leak coming in from the outdrive. I am assuming a bellows leak, although it could be the gimbal housing seal. I put a new one in but I am an eternal pessimist. It is just a trickle but it will have to be dealt with eventually. All the gauges that are connected are working, I need to find a diagram of the trim indicator-limit switch circuits. I am not sure if I want to run a line for the pitot speedo pickup, my lake has enough debris that I have seldom been able to use it much before a stick kicks the pitot up. It is the age of the GPS anyway. I need to order rub rail and seats and figure out what I want to do about a pylon. Still looking for two more original style cleats, if I can't find any I guess I'll have a mis-matched set. As it sits I have about $2300 in the boat and hundreds of hours of enjoyment working on it. I am well pleased with the results considering the $425 worth of junk I started out with. (An empty Hydrodyne hulk ($175) and a rotten Silverline ($250) with a rusty trailer and a busted motor and exhaust manifold from letting it freeze with water in it.)
If any of the bellows are old you will want to watch that leak closely, including the shift cable bellows. They dry out with age and if the boat was stored with the unit up they take a set. With use it can get worse fast and sink the boat. With a throttle chop the stern wave can come in the aft facing bilge vent. I turned mine around. jim
Looks like the price has doubled since 2001 but has't everything else? Still and Ouch. Please see the attached link for what I paid for two boats plus the original die setup. http://www.hydrodyners.com/forum/in...to-find-and-installation.319/page-3#post-2409
I really like the shadow effect of the bow stripes, very well done. Black on black rub rail was my choice for the 1975 (now in Avon, CO) for low maintenance but the white with black incert should present it self well. Looking good "Oldskier" Kevinb-
Well I'm just glad to be able to get it. It is the most protective looking rub rail I've seen. I've seen other types on Dynes and they look good but the original looks good and looks like it will hold up real well. Thanks, Bernie
