I know it's common for twins and triples but Im wondering how many of you are running extra weight in the nose of your 18. I have an 18 gallon fuel tank in the nose right now but I have decided that when using a barefoot boom that this weight isnt enough. If you do, Im wondering what you use for weight and how much? The other hydrodynes on our team all use lead but I can't find any that wouldn't break the bank.
I am also looking to source some bags of lead shot. Do you know where the other members in your club got the lead they put in thier boats? I've also heard of some clubs using bags of tube sand. I'd rather stick with the lead shot if I could. Bob
I don't feel a need for weight in the front of my 18, especially with the small block motor (big block I was thinking about maybe putting some weight in). Our team uses sand in a tube bags in the front of our multi rigs. We wrapped them with duct tape to help keep the bag in tact.
RiverRat - if you refer to my topic about transom wedges.. I need some weight in the front. One of the boat drivers on our team owns a construction company. He redid a doctors office and took all the lead out of a walls around an x-ray machine. Their like 4" X 4" square lead plates and they work really well. Someone out their has to have an idea! footndale - how many of those tire pieces does it take to add up to anything?
I don't doubt that you need weight in your bow. I was just referring to my experiences with my boat. Although the same, they are still all a bit different. That's what you get with hand built hulls. If the usual suspects don't solve the problem (wedge, prop, fuel tank location, lip at the rear of hull, etc...), weight is the next logical step. This is why I gave a suggestion for a possible way of doing it. Good luck with straightening out your problem.
