I have not done anything in a couple of weeks. The boat is at my lake cabin 4 hrs North of where I live and with the government shutdown they wont let us take time off so I cant get up there to work on it. I am stockpiling supplies so the next time I go up I will not run out of anything.
I like the arched contour, but I would go with a much shallower splash well. The depth is not necessary if you go with hydraulic steering because there is no need for the big hole in the side of the well. Actually I use able steering and my well is about 1/4 that deep or less. This leaves considerably more room under it. jim
The pylon is an original Hydrodyne 18 pylon that was off of a mid 70s hull. The pylon was professionally polished. I then mounted it through the rear deck out of the way of the seating area. The term ring that fits snug around the pylon and in between the fiberglass is actually a speaker port. You can purchase one for cheap at your local custom car stereo shop. It is a compression type of fit and uses no screws to mount.
Here is a picture of how the factory did the pylon in the new style 18. It works because of the added height. A shallow splash well would make it even stronger. jim
Tj if you like the way that deck looks you could always just get a hold of Skip and have him make a new one for you. He has the mold for it.
I actually like this one better, and it would be easier to build. It is on of the first prototype 18's from 1964. It more closely matches the foredeck contour I think. The deck is plywood and I think they should have stayed with it. I suspect that it would not accommodate the tall inline 6's of that era that the shows liked to use. Thus the cutout rear deck. jim
