    Hey guys,

Our family has had a ball with our Dyne. If you need something to keep you going check out our videos in the media section. That is what you have to look forward to. My daughter has won a wall full of trophies behind it.

I bought it in 90, converted it from an I/O to an outboard in 97 including new floor, stingers, motorwell, transom mods, carpet, upholstery, paint, instruments, tank, motor, steering, etc. It was worth all the headaches and then some.

tj309, yes, I have been following your rebuild. You are going much more high end with your boat with more expensive materials. You are doing an excellent job! It's going to be better than original. Looking forward to seeing it complete.
Mine was built with economy in mind. When I started this boat I was almost immediately laid off from a 37 year career. My wife's job kept us above water and allowed us to have health insurance. I found a job, but at a little less than half of my old income. It freaked me out enough to get real frugal. I rebuilt with plywood, two by lumber and polyester resin. I expect it to last my lifetime but not forever. I think I got lucky with the engine and out drive, but time will tell. I don't have much more than $3000 in it yet.
Jim, Thank you for your willingness to help with all the accumulated information that you offer. You are the first to try and help everyone when a question comes up, and I wouldn't have even gone to rescue this poor old boat if you hadn't encouraged me to be more positive about the core.

Just a little followup to the prop pitch question:

Prop choices are dependent on the purpose of the boat. If you are looking to max speed, then higher pitch/rake props are in the game (21P or more....but not with a 165 hp, trust me). If you are looking to blend the HP, top end and reasonable rpms, then the end use becomes more of a variable and this site can help. Adding blades from the traditional 3-blade can also create a different out come. Curious as to what will be your end purpose for the boat?

Kevin, the boat will mostly be used to teach my grandkids to ski. While we do that we will be tubing and once in a while it will need to pull an old fat man on a slalom....I'm pretty sure a taller pitch is in my future, I have 2 19p props on hand and hope to trade for a 21.

I love to see these old Dynes come back to life. Much of the information I share comes from Ab Crosby Jr and Tom Miller. I spent quite a bit of time with both of them years ago educating myself. I have learned quite a bit from this forum also.

If I were younger I would try to figure out a way to get the 18 back into production. I think it is possible.

I don't use mine much any more, but it has seen a lot of water time over the years.

Is there a way that you can demo a 19 high five to buy if it works out? A 21 is really too much prop for a 165 hp. It will be a struggle for the driver and the person at the end of the rope in the corners. The 75 I sold last fall had a 21p and worked out if the driver knew how to feather the throttle but it would have been best served with a 19 or 20 +3 three blade.

Kevin, I will need to check speed with a GPS before I spend any money on props. I'm going by the seat of the pants regarding speed since no speedo is in use yet. Maybe my seat of the pants is out of calibration LOL!

Do you recall what RPM yours ran at 36 MPH?

Hey Bernie, Been off the site for quite awhile trying to get my Hobie Power Skiff ready for FL and bringing it down. In any case, just wanted to say that your Dyne turned out beautiful and you should be real proud of it. For a so called budget project, you have a real jewel. Pat on the back. Gary
